Panoramic Views

A test of the new phone's ability to take panoramic pictures. This Fort Point, in SF

(no it's not, a problem with posting from said phone...)

Career Moves

It's five years this week since I quit a way-too-large-salary, benefits, vacations, commute, i.e., 'the day job' for stumbling downstairs and typing for anyone who would write a check, i.e, 'self-employment'.

I haven't regretted a day.

A. Citizen: Gay In South Carolina

…. you realize that they did, indeed, get their point across yesterday. There’s no denying those lines at the restaurants were long. Your friends and followers filled your Facebook and Twitter feeds not with a dispassionate political or religious argument, but with enthusiasm, anger, and vitriol. And in a bizarre display, politicians had their pictures taken literally buried in fast food bags and posing with people wearing cow costumes.

You used to wonder about those old black and white photos showing otherwise good people in the 1950's and 60's doing unimaginable things. How could those housewives scream slurs at those kids going into the Arkansas high school? Yesterday was a wake-up call, a reminder that good, fine people can be terribly wrong in a ways that only history can reveal and correct.

Stupidity, damn stupidity and, well, just more stupid

How can you have  serious debate when people are just making stuff up and/or are stupid.

The government didn't create the internet says a former WSJ Editor.  Wait, I have Marshall Mcluhan, er Vint Cerf, right here.

Romney says the Aurora shooter got his guns illegally, so there isn't a need for new laws. Well, except not.

Romney's foreign policy mavens are concerned about the Soviet threat.  Do you really need a link for that one?

John McCain on Huma Abedin

This is John McCain's reaction to Michele Bachmann's McCarthy-esque attacks on one of Hillary Clinton's aides, who happens to be Muslim. Bachmann, the Minnesota freak show reject who amusingly ran for President, must be missing the spotlight.

“Mr. President: Rarely do I come to the floor of this institution to discuss particular individuals. But I understand how painful and injurious it is when a person’s character, reputation, and patriotism are attacked without concern for fact or fairness. It is for that reason that I rise today to speak in defense of Huma Abedin.

“Over the past decade, I have had the pleasure of coming to know Huma during her long and dedicated service to Hillary Rodham Clinton, both in the United States Senate and now in the Department of State. I know Huma to be an intelligent, upstanding, hard-working, and loyal servant of our country and our government, who has devoted countless days of her life to advancing the ideals of the nation she loves and looking after its most precious interests. That she has done so while maintaining her characteristic decency, warmth, and good humor is a testament to her ability to bear even the most arduous duties with poise and confidence.

“Put simply, Huma represents what is best about America: the daughter of immigrants, who has risen to the highest levels of our government on the basis of her substantial personal merit and her abiding commitment to the American ideals that she embodies so fully. I am proud to know Huma, and to call her my friend.
